When I think about Farrowhaven Island, the setting of my quartet series, I think of driving for long, slow, hours through the winding mountains of Northern California. My family owned cabins on Mt. Rainier in the early 70s. I grew up hearing stories about summers on the mountain and my mom driving up those same roads in a station wagon where my youngest uncle rode in the trunk and no one had seat belts.
That was the beginning of this series, the first place I could picture Maeven, our heroine. Driving her own slow, winding path through mountain roads that curled in on each other and appeared never ending. Sadly the cabins are no longer in my family, but they can still be rented out, which is what we do for reunions.
But then I visited Alaska, oh Alaska!
How your mountain peaks and glaciers claimed a spot in my heart. How the sharp, cold mornings warmed my snuggly soul as I put layer after layer on in the middle of July. I could not easily forget the landscape after visiting Alaska and that is where FarrowHaven came to life.
A lonely sea-faring town that was destined to welcome visitors to its shore during the summer season. But this town and its creatures hold more magic than one would expect. And her mountains and beaches are not always nice and welcoming to the visitors that have long overdue their welcome.
Just kidding!
That's an entirely different series of books that need writing.
But FarrowHaven will welcome you with open arms (visitor packages available at all major Council Forums) as long as you can pay for it. ;)
